Continum of Learning

For Emergency Closures of Schools

When school-based instruction is not possible.

OVERVIEW

Baltimore City Public Schools is committed to providing many options for families to continue learning for their children. During events where school-based instruction is not possible, establishing a continuity of learning is very important. The desired outcome is when school-based instruction resumes, the loss of learning for students will be minimized. This document will detail the opportunities on a grade and subject level so that families can access the learning for their children in the most appropriate way possible.

To accomplish this, City Schools will use different platforms and formats and unearth every way possible to reach students during this incredible time. The learning opportunities will arise from centrally-based systems and school-based interactions with families and students. The main formats are:

• The Education and City Television Channels
• Online learning opportunities
• Learning Packets
• Online teacher/student/family platforms such as Google Classrooms
• Phone outreach for support of our youngest learners

There are two main goals:
1. To continue learning while being as flexible as possible for our families, and  2. To continue the connections that matter – the ones between teacher and student, family, and school. All of these opportunities must be provided while taking into account the
social and emotional well-being of children. Practices used in the regular classroom will be employed online between teacher and student to ensure the immediate well-being of each student is addressed.
